Jeep Cherokee 9-Speed Transmission Woes
The 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs, experience sudden shutdowns, hard shifts, and odd shift points in their 9-speed transmission. The 9-speed automatic transmission for a consumer vehicle was to assist in the acceleration of the vehicle, enhance the fuel consumption of the vehicle despite its being heavy and to compact the design. However, this causes a lot of shifting to the vehicle making it experience a lot of jerking and violent shaking as well as rough shifting among the first three gears. In 2016, the company recalled 505,000 vehicles equipped with a transmission called 9HP48 or 948TE.
Jeep’s Faulty TIPM
Majority of the 2007-2015 jeep models contain defective Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). TIPM breakdown causes airbags deploying at random not necessarily during a crash, the starter to crank until it burns out, the horn goes off randomly, power windows open at random or shut completely, and the fuel pump does not completely turn off after switching off the engine. FCA agreed to settle free fuel pump relay repairs, extended warranty on fuel pump repairs up to 7 years / 70,000 miles and reimburse previous TIPM replacements, diagnostics, and rental car expenses for the 2011-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. They also recalled the 2012–2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee to install a stronger pump relay external to the TIPM–7.
