High above Seattle in the Slalom Hawk Tower, overlooking the sports stadiums and Elliott Bay, GeekWire once again partied with the tech community on Wednesday at our annual summer rooftop party.
The sold-out event, sponsored by Microsoft, was a proper warm-up to the evening’s Mariners game. Attendees networked and munched on hot dogs and other food and beverages before heading to T-Mobile Park to see the M’s beat the San Diego Padres, 5-2.
“This is a great Seattle day,” GeekWire co-founder John Cook told the crowd on the Slalom deck, as the rain held off and people took in the spectacular views above Pioneer Square.

Cook was joined by Jane Broom, director of philanthropies at Microsoft, who discussed how it’s an exciting time at the Redmond, Wash.-based tech giant as it prepares to mark its 50th year. Part of the celebration includes a community campaign called “One Future. One Sound.”
“It’s an opportunity for us as a company to express our gratitude for people like all of you who have made this community such an amazing place to live and work,” Broom said.
GeekWire is also launching a special project called “Microsoft @ 50” which will help readers better understand how Microsoft got here, and where it’s headed next.
